With Halloween festivities in full swing and Thanksgiving only a couple weeks away, we're sharing an easy DIY project to add some festive decor to your home. We had such a great response to our Pumpkin Vase post, that we thought we would introduce DIY Gourd Candle Holders!
1. Choose your gourds.
We love using a variety of shapes and colors, you can also use small pumpkins!
2. Cut the Stems
Make sure to use floral cutters when doing this to keep a clean cut. Try to cut as close to the base as possible.
3. Trace the Candles
If your gourd or pumpkin has a flat top, hold the candle to the gourd and trace around it with a marker. Our advice is to use votives or tapers, but if you are using larger gourds feel free to use an applicable candle size.
4. Drill or Cut the Hole
The easiest way to do this is by using a paddle drill bit, and drilling about 2 inches deep. However if you don't have access to a drill, you can use a knife and a spoon to scoop out the hole.
5. Place the Candle
Once the hole is shaped to securely hold the candle, place in the candle and light! Keep your gourd in a cool and dry place. We love using these as table centerpieces in addition to freshly cut flowers!
