We're so excited to introduce Monica, our event host hailing from Austin, TX. Below we share some of her favorite moments as a host, her favorite flowers, and her favorite ways to celebrate -- meet her and pick her brain further at one of her upcoming events!
First things first...why did you decide to join the Alice's Table Event Host program?
I wanted to do something new that would challenge and excite me. I love hosting events and teaching so it seemed like a perfect fit. It's scary to take a leap, but after talking with Alice's Table about their level of support, I realized it's worth it. I get to set my own schedule, play with flowers, meet new people and most of all, be a #girlboss role model for my daughter.
What's your #ATmoment?
My AT moment happened in a shop pulling together flowers for a party. I use to think that flower shops were so overwhelming, but that day I looked around at all the options and was excited, not paralyzed! I was surrounded by gorgeous blooms and it was just a wonderful zen moment. It's that moment I think about when I'm talking to people about flowers. Through Alice's Table, I hope I can help inspire others to wander into a once-scary flower shop and create arrangements of their own.
What would you tell someone who is thinking about joining Alice's Table and needs that extra boost?
It's an opportunity and a chance to do something for you. You can set your own goals and truly make it your own with amazing support from Alice's Table. Whether you need the money or just a creative outlet, it's a fun way to bring people together in our hectic world and literally make everyone stop to smell the flowers.
What's your favorite flower? It's been the Zinnia for as long as I can remember. I fell in love with the 'Envy" variety because of its green color.
Your drink of choice? I love prosecco cocktails. If there's one with elderflower, I'm sold. Bubbles are cheerful and make every day feel like a special occasion even on your worst day.
Any go-to entertaining tips? If you ask any of my friends or family, I love a themed event. It doesn't have to be a costumed-affair (though I love any excuse to dress up) and you don't even have to tell anyone. It makes your event look and feel cohesive and fuels creativity. I find it also can make planning easier because it narrows down a multitude of decoration, food, and beverage choices.
What's your favorite thing to do in your city? I'm outside with my family whether that's paddle-boarding on Lady Bird Lake or exploring new shops after eating breakfast tacos, of course.
