Boston Common Magazine: Go Ask Alice

March 23, 2018

There’s no reason to raise capital the traditional way if you’re Alice Rossiter Lewis.

The Dallas Mavericks owner, Mark Cuban, and Spanx shape wear founder Sara Blakely never would have imagined forking over a cool $250,000 to invest in a flower business… until they met Alice Rossiter Lewis. She impressed them, as well as everyone on ABC-TV’s reality show Shark Tank, which awards the best entrepreneurial idea with a cash prize.

Roster Lewis, a former professional in the technology industry, is the founder of Alice’s Table (alicestable.com), a flower arranging company that produces special workshops and female entrepreneurs. The concept is simple: Each woman receives a $699 starter kit complete with clippers, flower arranging materials, training videos and a software program to manage class bookings and ticket sales. The “Business in a Box” platform, as Rossiter Lewis calls it, empowers women to launch their own event business.

“I grew up in a creative household surrounded by flowers,” says Rossiter Lewis. “Creativity has many sides, whether it’s arranging flowers or problem solving in business. I see myself more as a creative soul. Business and technology are learned skills.”
