Nantucket is my favorite summertime spot! There is nothing better than hitting the road towards the ferry after a long work week and forgetting all about the endless emails you still need to finish. The transition from the mainland to the island is magical, and (most of the time) lets me leave my worries in the water. The cool breeze is a huge breath of fresh air! When I arrive, I head straight for the oysters and champagne.
The secret to Nantucket is September! The most glorious time on the island. The water is warm, the sun is still out, and you can always get a dinner reservation. The summer crowds leave the island after labor day in preparation for fall, so Nantucket slows down a bit. And my favorite part of September - Bartlett's Farm has an end of season tomato picking Saturday. They take you out to their fields, and you get to pick as many tomatoes as you would like, fresh off the vine. I head for the plum tomatoes to make a large batch of sauce, perfect for canning or freezing for the winter!
Some of my favorite places in Nantucket:
- Provisions for sandwiches before the beach
- Black Eyed Susans for an amazing BYOB dinner
- Cru for after dinner cocktails
- Nantucket Looms for house warming gifts
- Slyvia Antiques for a bit of antiquing
